Today we attended the ArtSPLASH at the Canton Cultural Center for the Arts.
It was an Arts Day with an educational flair. They has lots of make-n-take activities for children which were provided by area schools and non-profit organizations. The theme was Marvel Comics, so Batman and the Incredible Hulk were both there for kids to take pictures with.
They also had face-painting, which is something BirBir was always afraid to try. But not today! She did it for the first time! She requested a pink and purple butterfly!
They also had a live entertainment from various groups including the Canton Ballet, which was nice to watch.
The best part? The whole event was FREE (including the parking!) Now isn’t that something to be happy about? 🙂
So today was BirBir’s first day at preschool!
It’s the 3-year-old group at the school where I will be working as a kindergarten teacher.
We had read the book The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn, so I packed her first lunch with that book in mind.
It was all screams and even more screams from her when I dropped her off at her classroom! It totally broke my heart. I would’ve stuck around longer but her teacher said it was best to just leave. Plus, I really had to leave since I had to go to my on classroom!
I did check up on her a few times throughout the day, without her noticing me, and she seemed just fine.
Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day for her at drop-off!
Just me and my gal!
We are going to go see my sister Sara, who lives out in Chicago. Also, my friend’s sister from Saudi Arabia will be there too, so we will be seeing her as well 🙂
But back to our road trip!
I’m actually more excited than I should be about this! Maybe because I see it as an adventure with it being just BirBir and I. Or maybe it’s my love for driving and my love of road trips. Either way, I’m excited!
So how will I attempt this and survive? I packed accordingly!
Here’s what I thought were important items in order to make BirBir comfortable on this trip thus making ME comfortable as well:
- plenty of books for her entertainment
- coloring books
- blank paper
- her BLANKI!
- her stuffed animal (cat)
- more snacks
- her water bottle
coffee (yeah that’s actually for me!)
Of course, I packed her bag with wipes, change of clothes, socks, etc.
Alright, so this adventure starts tomorrow! Stay tuned to see how it all unravels!
So we went to the pet shop today and after looking at the dogs, cats, turtles, and monkeys (yes monkeys, they had pet monkeys for sale! oh how I wish I could buy one!), we went to the fish tanks to have a look.
BirBir went crazy over the small shark they had inside the big tank. Of course, that wasn’t an option.
Finally, I had her look at the tanks that actually were an option. After many “oohhhs” and “ahhhhs”, she finally settled to the goldfish. So we got here two. One was all orange, while the other had black spots.
We got her a small, plastic container with a lid to transfer the fish around, but it was going to be their home as well.
She was excited and I was excited for her. It’s nice to start little kids with goldfish as pets, teaches them responsibility and taking care of something.
Oh, and when I asked her what will she name them, she said “Hajer and Bassam” (my name and her dad’s name) haha awww so cute! We have fish named after us 🙂
UPDATE: We woke up the next day and the fish were dead! They didn’t even last 12 hours! Bummer! When BirBir saw them this morning, I just told her that they were “sleeping” (I know, I know, I shouldn’t lie to her, but I didn’t know how to tell her they were dead! Anyway, she’s too young for that).
Oh and by the way, the pictures below were actually of them in RIP mode! I didn’t get a chance to take pics of them last night.
It has began.
God help us.
So, I officially started potty-training BirBir today. Actually, back in June, I bought her a small potty but she wanted nothing to do with it.
I’m going to start with the method of not putting her in diapers when she’s at home (cause she does go to daycare for a few hours during the day). I will also have her sit on her potty every 30 minutes or so. I mean, that is my plan, but something tells me she might have her own plan!
I did get her some cute, little undies to encourage her to be like a “big girl” and teach her to pull them up and down. Hopefully that would aid in this process.
So wish me luck!
Back to school… back to work… and for BirBir, back to daycare.
It’s not a bad thing. She actually loves going and enjoys it there. It’s just I got sooo used to having here home all summer and I didn’t want it to end 😦
But the good news is that we will start with a half day this month (until I figure out a few things at work). So she will be going from 8:15 am to around 11:30 am or sometimes 12 pm. Again, not too bad.
Her dad and I took her in today and walked her all the way to her classroom and that’s when she was stuck like glue to me! I kinda knew this would happen. But after about 15 minutes, we started slowly walking backwards towards the door as her teacher was talking to her and trying to distract her. But as soon as she caught on to her plan, she came running towards us!
But then we had to give her some tough-love. So we kissed her, said our goodbyes, and walked away.
Later, when we picked her up, her teacher said that she didn’t cry, but was asking about “mommy” all day. Awww, my poor little baby!
Here she is in her new dress for a new year at daycare 🙂
I’ve been taking pictures of BirBir from day one because I knew that I wanted to have her first year made into a scrapbook with 365 pics for 365 days. I’ve been soo busy with life and everything else, that I couldn’t get to it sooner! I would work on it a bit here and a bit there. But I FINALLY got it done, uploaded the pics, and made this video!!!!
Oh, you have NO IDEA how happy I am to finally have this project all complete! Well, at least the the video is done and all the pics are organized and labeled. Now the 2nd part is printing them and making the actual scrapbook! I actually love scrapbooking, so it should be a fun, summer project! Definatly on my *Summer Bucket List 2012*
